I like the idea of Fish Pye.

Thing is Barclay has looked awful, whereas we know Hogan is capable of much better. I wonder whether it’s a personal life thing. Think someone has posted he’s just had twins, and instead of getting proper paternity leave to get used to it, he’s been going to work as usual. In any other job, you’d expect a drop in performance in that situation, and much as we’d like to think differently, footballers are still just employees when it comes down to it. No harm in giving Fish a run out in an easier game though I’d say. As much as I don’t rate Hogan as highly as others if others are calling out a dip in form I can’t help but think his newborns are having an effect on him. I can’t help but think he should get some proper paternity leave, it’s not like we have a shortage of right footed centre backs (Palmer, Fish, Barclay and even Keane can do a job there when fit).

It's clearly a confidence issue, but he's making some poor decisions lately. How long do you persist and hope he comes good again? We are clearly stats driven with the number of backroom staff, so he clearly mut be on their radar. I guess it's a big statement to drop your captain, but at the moment he's costing or nearly costing goals. We don't score enough to get away with it every week unfortunately.
It seems strange that United have sent Fish on loan, but he doesn't make the first team. Can't see them being happy about that.
I'd give Fish a chance ahead of Hogan, but we must have Palmer in as first choice.
With regards to Pye stepping in, there’s also the possibility that with Fish joining up with England u-19s the day after Weymouth, that he/Utd didn’t want to risk injury.

He’s been a mistake waiting to happen for a good while imo. I’d definitely be giving him a breather at this point. His contract runs out at the end of the season which might also have an influence. I’ll be shocked if we were to extend it on current form He’s the second best central defender we’ve got so I think he’ll be here for a while 😉 I genuinely don’t see us extending Hogan’s contract regardless of which division we’re in next season.

Lol that is so true. He must look forward to overnight trips as he's not being woken up during the night. I bet he has no problem with curfews and things like that. I bet he's in bed for 9 and lie in, sounds great to me I get up with the kids 5.20, or 06.00 everyday! Also great point my performance dropped at work after my second. New borns are just so hard twin's as well. I imagine football and fixed term contracts put pressure on Hogan. He's still not preformed well though.

Hogan was absolutely immense last season. Shame somethings not right at the moment, having twins must be hard. Hopefully people cut him some slack and he turns it around. Him Palmer and Keane would be my go to 3ATB

Yeah you do have a great point about the left foot and completely forgot about Fryers haha.

When you said newborns, I initially thought you meant the young players!! Never thought he was comfortable when he played with Festus a couple of seasons ago, and always thought he and Palmer played much better together.

Hogan won't be with us next season. I personally think that Barclay was brought in as a long term replacement for Hogan. That can only really explain why we have so many right footed centre halves.

Yeah you do have a great point about the left foot and completely forgot about Fryers haha. I'd be happy to see Stott back at the club and working as an understudy to Fryers. Would then allow Pye to go out on loan and get a decent run of games under his belt, to possibly a 6th tier team - perhaps even replace Stott at Fylde.

The season was not long called off once Hogan arrived then Festus went before the next season started.

I get the impression came in as a ball playing version of Palmer. Which hasn't come off.

I hope Stott gets a chance, young and left footed and a valuable asset. I don’t know why Hogan got PoS last year, as he was caught in possession numerous times and also gave away so many fouls around the box. Something Gannon used to preach against. Not a suitable Captain IMO. Palmer is far better and more reliable and Pye played very well and confidently on his debut. So Palmer’s fish pye for me.
