Michael Flynn set to leave Newport County today. One of the reasons for leaving is frustrations with training facilities.... That’s one person I’d love to see take over here. Although I expect he’ll be looking for something higher up the pyramid. Or has some other club had a chat to him. If so i doubt it will be us.

Ive been assured hes got the season barring a catastrophe

We have had a relatively hard first 8 games compared to everyone else, not been a lot to shout about granted but lets see where we are after the next 8 'easier' games

We have had a relatively hard first 8 games compared to everyone else, not been a lot to shout about granted but lets see where we are after the next 8 'easier' games At least unless there are new injuries about to happen we will have the chance to name an injury free squad by then to see what happens. It wasn't the results as such more the manner of how we played, particularly against Dagenham, Yeovil and Halifax that disappointed. I don't think that an injury free start would have seen a different approach or change to our ultra negative formation. The reluctance to accept that 3 strikers is woefully insufficient should an injury or suspension occur also played its part (and still does) as it reduces our options. The signing of Crankshaw suggests (again) that a Plan B is in the pipeline and the performance of Whitfield last week a reminder to SR that when the players do what they are best at they can be very good. If he maintains the team turgid set up because doing otherwise would see him bowing to pressure then he will lose more of the fan base that are sticking with him. A 1-0 win is not a better result than a 5-1 victory. It is a deflection, a blunder or a referees howler from 2 lost points.

There could be a bit of cross-County learning too, with Newport teaching Stockport how to do a statement about a managerial departure with a bit of grace and class.

Ive been assured hes got the season barring a catastrophe There you are then. We’ll be non league for another season. Taking the end of last season and adding it to the present one he has actually got part of the job right. Forgetting the second half at the shay our away results must be the best or close to be the best in the league. Its the home results and style of play where he has for me failed. In fact was it just one player that shone in the 2nd half last saturday and we really had just a minimum requirement from a team at home. Then there is the question of recruitment. Would not put the whole blame on him for that like those Jim signed after the takeover. At least in the past when we signed players that did nothing for the cause they cost us sod all.

Dagenham, Chesterfield and Boreham Wood have all won more away games than we have so far this season (and presumably home games too, seeing how they’re all above us in the table…) We’re mid-table because we’ve performed like a mid-table team since August. Forget any home/away delta because even though *our* away results have been better than our own home results, I don’t think we’re the best performers away from home in this division.

It's surely driven by contracting him until 2024, paying off those future years is such an expensive decision so we'd have to be in a bit of a catastrophe for that to be the best business decision. Factor in also that his boss would lose face, so would want to avoid that decision and cling as long as possible to the hope Rusk can turn things round.
The fans' reaction to the sacking of Jim mangifies that last point too, they know they absolutely had to get this right. It's still arguably a grey area while Rusk remains in post with hopes of promotion, however slim, but sacking him just 20% into his contract term is a tacit admission of having cocked that one up.
