Said it elsewhere, but in March we were a laughing stock: hammered in Oz, beaten in the Windies. And within 4 months, we've made 3 of the top 50 run chases of all time, in successive tests against the World Champs. And there's a decent chance of getting our best ever (and the 8th best ever amongst all teams) this morning. Obviously Root and - particularly - Bairstow are in the form of their lives, but it's amazing what a change of management and attitude can do. Anyone else think that Root has benefited by giving up the captaincy?.......and the team benefitted by Stokes taking it on? Yes, similar to Ian Botham whose form dipped when he took the job.

Think McCallum must take a lot of credit as well. Seems a great guy who backs his players and accepts that it won't always work. We look a far more confident and more importantly a far happier team. I know he has ruled it out, but Baz ball is made for Jos Buttler to open.

It's the obvious conclusion to be drawn, but I suspect it's too early to say definitively. Cricket captaincy is such a different thing from, say, football. There's so much to think about, it's probably unsurprising if when it's taken away from them and all they have to then do is concentrate on batting, certain players will thrive. So re Root, definitely. When it comes to Stokes, obviously the freedom that he and McCullum have brought in is behind the change in attitude and - directly - results. But he does seem a bit reluctant to bowl himself, which I'm not sure is a good thing.

He can’t cope with a moving ball.

Said it was all Stokes. The way he was talking sounded really genuine too. Says he hasn't done much at all yet and has just been trying to support Stokes's ideas. If anything he sounded like he was trying to reign Stokes in!

It’s like watching County last spring this. 2 down at half time? It’ll be fine.

Incredible stuff, although I'd be disappointed if I had a ticket for today.

Now they are one and the same thing, Stokes's clarity of thinking. Look at the difference its made to Bairstow who was at the best an average in and out selection. Having said that Lees and Crawley were excellent yesterday and look a fixture now.

There has been a couple of times where he was promoted to open when England needed quick runs to try and win a game and from memory he got out very quickly. I think Baz ball is about having positive players with shots in their locker and a positive mindset but also being able to reign in for an hour or two if needed like Bairstow and Root did yesterday. It’s interesting that Stokes is probably the one who’s going too far in his aggressive approach.

Not sure if it is to do with all the confusion with the change of coach and captain but you would have thought that they would know today's game is an ODI not T20 !!!!

Roy is clueless looks like a number 11 if the ball moves about we have better options to open than him, 1 hundred and 2 50s in last 3 years isnt good enough Some exceptional bowling early doors and big toss to win though and got away from us in first 30 mins
