Forgive my ignorance but who is Dean Jones? Calls himself a 'senior transfer correspondent' yet his tweets just appear to be gossip pulled from other readily available sources or the musings of your average football fan. I do think there's some legs in this move but but I wouldn't say Dean Jones has the low down on anything in particular, he just repeats what he hears from other stuff already out there! He is basically a bot then. Come on matbot, be a bit pickier!

Senior transfer correspondent for 'give me sport' no less.
Anyone who's seen that website will know it's total mess of clickbait shite.

It's interesting to see how different people's perceptions can be. Here's my two penneth on Powell. He's not lazy or lacks application. In fact, I'm sure I read he had the highest tackles per 90mins than anyone in the squad. On the ball, he's been a step or two ahead of the rest of our team all season long. Which is why you'll see him playing passes where he expects a team mate to be, which they aren't which then results in giving the ball away. Players who are used to playing at a higher level often look poorer in lower leagues due to the lower standard of the players around them. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that with better players around Powell this season, he'll look better to the untrained eye. He won't be doing anything different, the difference will be the players around him will be closer to the level he operates at so more of his work will be rewarded. He filled the gap left by Crossy when he was injured and added so much needed class / technique to our midfield, linked up so well with intelligent players like Evans. no doubt Bate will add that into our team but he's a young lad playing a level up to last year, Powell provides us with so much experience at this level. Feel this could be a big year for Powell if he retains fitness and does not pick up injuries. Not my type of player but can see the value in what he is capable of. If he builds on his better performances it will be seen as a good signing. See th worst of him if the side are struggling he,s the type some sections of our fans might single out. Always feel that EP is a great place and nowhere better if you are popular as player but not if a group of fans dislike them.

There’s a clear lack of trust in Powell from DC, he more or less said as much in a recent interview (paraphrasing) “it doesn’t matter what position you play him in if he wants to go to left back for a bit because he sees that’s where he can get on the ball he will” it wasn’t meant as a compliment … and I think the feeling is mutual Wouldn’t surprise me to see him gone, one way or another, fairly soon but I would love to see him be trusted and given that free role

Didn’t see it, would be interested in listening.

The days of the "free role" seem from a bygone era to me. The modern game is all about being in sync with and without the ball.
To have a free role, you really do have to be an exceptional player. I like Powell but not sure he's shown that level.

Pardon me not wading through an ocean of pages but where are we with attacking resources for the coming season? Stretton is an unknown after such a long lay off. Madden has gone. Cannot be confident Barry is coming back. Tanto is apparently recovering from an injury. Karl Wootton is more of a hold up player and untested at this new level. Sounds like we have some exciting midfield players and a strong defence but unclear where the goals to win games are expected to come from.

There should be 1 or 2 wingers as we have little depth out wide just diamond and fevrier

There is another wide right player for you.

We're almost certainly playing a front three and have four strikers capable of playing that middle role - Tanto, Wootton, Mellon and Stretton. That feels more than enough - already need to send Stretton out on loan, in my view. Would like us to add Barry for the role on the left of the three, but can't see us adding any more attackers than that (though I wouldn't say no to Jayden Luker as cover on the right).
