Probably controversial but he looks like half the player we had at the start of last season to me. Clearly capable of magic moments like we’ve seen but he’s not really dominating games like he did. Also, given he’s now had a month with us and been playing every week, he still looks miles off fitness wise. Wide attackers never really dominate matches. It's revisionism to say he dominated matches last season IMO. He's a game changer with moments of real quality in the final third and has shown that both last season and already this season. The bit I agree with is the fitness element, he's not lasting as long in matches but Challinor has already alluded to this. It’s not. You look at games like Accy and Harrogate away he was unplayable and stood out in both as the best player on the park.

As a team we completely dominated those games which meant Barry would have had consistent ball in the final third. We've started great but wouldn't say we've been as dominant as a team than some of those League Two games.

He has hit the ground running whilst only at 3/4 of what he can bring to the table. If he gets fully fit and stays fully fit he will take us up!🥳🍺⚽️💥

This season, a division higher than last, he's looked fantastic against both Cambridge and Blackpool and even with two lesser performances against Bristol Rovers and Mansfield he still managed a goal, then had a goal and an assist in a 10 minute cameo last week in the Trophy. I don't think we've had any less of a Louie Barry so far this season as we had last season, other than minutes and that'll come.

We didn't do that enough vs Mansfield (and probably won't do it as much this season vs better teams relative to last season) but he still had two great runs - one that got a shot away and a half-chance to Collar, the other was only stopped by a tackle so good Mansfield put it all over their socials. Getting fit will make so much difference. He'll be on the pitch for longer, he can expend more energy making runs and add to the defensive side of his game. I like it that he was annoyed at DC coming off vs Mansfield. Hopefully he remembers that and it spurs him on.

I’d been raving about him to my Crewe mate and we were in the Crewe stand in front of him. Hardly had a kick. Not his fault, but definitely some rose tinted glasses here.

He started last season pretty slow too tbf and only really kicked on when the whole team did. Did he ever completely dominate games? I always thought of him as a moments player where he comes alive and does something magical but then drifts in and out of overall games. I don't know if that's true or not. He is also playing at a higher level than last season.

Also, given he’s now had a month with us and been playing every week, he still looks miles off fitness wise. I'd agree to an extent but there's other factors in play. He's playing against better defences (and still ripped apart Blackpool). He's still not fully fit. Wootton took months to look right coming off his injury and has only hit his best this season. I think when he joined DC said he was about 3 weeks behind where they wanted him too. Presumably with Villa having a later preseason and being cautious with his prior injury. I agree we've not seen the blistering pace of the start of last season. He's still quick, or particularly when dribbling as his control is a lot better than most, but I hope he hasn't lost that extra gear. I think he's still getting comfortable pushing himself. He does need to get fitter though generally - both to last the full 90 and offer more tracking back. It's a scary thought though that this is Barry at like 60-70%. I don't think Barry is particularly pacey in terms of straight line speed, I think where he is fast is in his ability to move quickly with the ball. He'd probably lose a foot race with quite a few of our other players but would outrun them all if it was running with a ball.

Evans was probably more impressive defensively than offensively. Worked his socks off all game and really hindered us playing out.
