It's interesting to see how different people's perceptions can be. Here's my two penneth on Powell. He's not lazy or lacks application. In fact, I'm sure I read he had the highest tackles per 90mins than anyone in the squad. On the ball, he's been a step or two ahead of the rest of our team all season long. Which is why you'll see him playing passes where he expects a team mate to be, which they aren't which then results in giving the ball away. Players who are used to playing at a higher level often look poorer in lower leagues due to the lower standard of the players around them. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that with better players around Powell this season, he'll look better to the untrained eye. He won't be doing anything different, the difference will be the players around him will be closer to the level he operates at so more of his work will be rewarded. We’ve basically found ourselves a Camps/Powel hybrid in Bate with extra mobility. Not really sure where he’s going to fit, I’m sure we’ll find a round hole somewhere, what with all the injuries we’ve already picked up…

But if he's that good, and I don't doubt he's got the ability, he should be able to adapt his game a bit and play a pass where a team mate actually is, not where he imagines one to be and hoofs the ball out/loses possession. It's on him as an individual to adapt, rather than the rest of the team flex around him. Exactly this, I mean it's not like they meet up on a Saturday strangers, they will have trained together so he should know what the other players are capable of and adapt accordingly. For what it's worth I would be quite happy to have him still with us next season, his experience and calmness could be invaluable, especially for some of the young lads to feed off.

He filled the gap left by Crossy when he was injured and added so much needed class / technique to our midfield, linked up so well with intelligent players like Evans. no doubt Bate will add that into our team but he's a young lad playing a level up to last year, Powell provides us with so much experience at this level.

Disinterested? Jesus. 🤦🏻♂️ If the best presser at our club was uninterested, I'm not sure how we managed to win the league. Are we calling him the best presser at the club based on that stat that got shared on here months ago? Because I questioned the methodology at the time on here and directly to the person who put it together and even the bloke accepted I was fair in my questioning of it. What it did show was that he is the best at picking his moments, but when your identity is built around pressing in packs having one player who just does it when he knows he can win the ball isn’t necessarily helpful to the team. Edit - to be clear I’m not saying I agree with the assessment of him being disinterested because I don’t think that’s fair, I just don’t think it’s accurate to say he’s the best presser based on one stat about “successful presses” (if that is what it’s based on but I’ve seen nothing else)

Which is why you'll see him playing passes where he expects a team mate to be, which they aren't which then results in giving the ball away.” This assessment has two major flaws for me: 1. He’s played at League Two before, and if he’s that good he should know those players won’t be where a Championship player will be so should adjust the decision making accordingly. A player who doesn’t think about who he’s playing with isn’t all that. I also actually think it’s disrespectful to Powell and the players he’s playing with. Why wouldn’t he look up to see where teammates are rather than pinging a ball to someone he hasn’t played with in 5 years? 2. A lot of those Hollywood passes were simply overhit and nobody was getting on the end of them except the stewards or row A. Usain Bolt wouldn’t have got on the end of some of those passes. In the same way that some will never be won round by him (and I’m not in that camp, he has ample opportunity to win me over and has done a little at times through last season) there are those who will look for any excuse to defend him. He was giving the ball away in ways Croasdale would have got pelters for at times. Poor passes straight to opponents not under pressure. They didn’t bother me most of the time (I don’t expect perfection) except for knowing a blind eye would be turned because it was Nick Powell and he had good close control.

Powell has done next to piss all. And looked disinterested since he’s been here. For the money he’s on if his only real highlight is a pass at Grimsby away then f*ck him off. Of course he’s the type of player that will probably choose to see out his way too expensive deal by not playing. We still need some experience and another forward. His wages free up that if we can f*ck him off. Also could pay for Barry. Might not be any truth in the rumours but look at what Madden has done for us compared to him and there’s no contest. Never liked him. If he does stay he needs to do an awful lot for us to justify his daft wage. Disinterested? Jesus. 🤦🏻♂️ Yeah I shouldn’t post when pissed. Was a bit harsh.

Forgive my ignorance but who is Dean Jones? Calls himself a 'senior transfer correspondent' yet his tweets just appear to be gossip pulled from other readily available sources or the musings of your average football fan. I do think there's some legs in this move but but I wouldn't say Dean Jones has the low down on anything in particular, he just repeats what he hears from other stuff already out there!
