Woots needs to keep producing because at the moment He is the only one who can do his job in the squad..... With just over a week to go until the window closes. I have said it before Stephen Humphrys is sill a free agent and would provide that extra quality woots and the squad needs Wishful thinking... but I think we need competition in that area Never seen Mellon play so I can't comment on him if he was supposed to provide that Not particularly keen on getting Humphrys, would rather have a youngster on loan like Bailey Cadermateri, who is interesting Wrexham or even Josh Stokes who Cambridge, are after following Bristol City’s desire to loan him out! It depends on how long Michael Mellon is out for. Had hoped we had signed Will Evans, but l know we have plenty of options within the squad, I still would like someone if Mellon is out for a couple of months or more, to cover for injuries and loss of form etc.

Hope get tied up quickly, crucial to our fortunes He is and as a striker has value too. Posted on the contract dates thread but there's a few big players out of contract this season where it will be interesting if/when we sort new deals: Collar, Horsfall and Camps are definitely worth one for me before January. There's also MSH, Knoyle, Touray and Stretton.

Now not so much. We have proven how many different ways we can play. He’s been outstanding for us in his two games so far but I have no fear that we will cope if he’s absent.

Same for me and we aren't going to find someone with his attributes (i.e. a really well rounded no.9 who can do a bit of everything) without good money, which doesn't really make sense - unless Mellon is out longterm - when we have Wootton, Barry, Tanto, Mellon, Fevrier and Diamond for at most 3 attacking slots. Both to keep players happy but also to give minutes to our own players who we want to develop if we have 3 loans on the books up front. I can see us playing 3-4-1-2 plenty this season too. Arguably that's how we play when we attack now with Barry cutting in and Diamond and Touray keeping high and wide. We also played our best football last season with Barry and Tanto up top, as good as Wootton has started this season. I think we'll struggle to balance all 3 on the pitch so having 3 class options, as well as Diamond, Fevrier and Mellon - who look more than handy - works for me.

Pretty remarkable to think some of the stick Touray was given from our own fans both in the grounds and online, only for his peers to vote him into the team of the season! To be fair, it's abit daft him getting voted in the team of the season. Feel like he's got in that off reputation and the fact that we won the league (plus players are often not great watchers of the game themselves). I'm delighted for him that he's started this season really well but let's not pretend that he pulled up trees last season. As far as I can recall his season went something like... August to September - played out of position, looked pretty bad October to November - replaced by Pye at Left back, didn't play much as we went on our big run (he may have been injured but Pye definately took his place) November to Feb - came back into the team (ironically at the Newport game which was our first loss in ages) and really struggled all the way up to when he went to AFCON in January Feb to March - pretty solid from the Gillingham away 0-0 till he got injured April - didn't play much in the run in

Though I broadly agree. Delighted for him though and hope he goes from strength to strength. Edit - Also played the 6th most minutes in our squad last season, which just shows our injury issues. 27.1 90s, Madden managed 27.7 in the league.

There is a strong argument to suggest he wouldn’t even make our team of the season. Glad he’s started this season looking like the player we expected though unsure if long term he’s the right fit for a team look to play quickly and sharply out from the back.

In the 90s getting to the 1st division playoffs felt like a natural position for County...after admin, non league and now the mark stott era... mid table EFL1 feels like our default place ...given the refurbishment of EP extra fans, and income who knows where we will end up But if you look at the size of the clubs in the championship just staying in that division would be a mammoth task but the dream of getting back into it is real... fantastic... Would you have it any other way I'm 30 in a couple of weeks and this is genuinely the only time I've been able to dream as a County fan, started going in the 99/00 season - so it's certainly nice to dream Back in the 70’s we also had dreams but they were frequently interrupted by nightmares.

You can have 3 asists in 8 games and still play pretty bad. I doubt anyone back in September last year would have been extolling his virtues, regardless of his 3 assists.

My comment was slightly tongue in cheek. I was also fairly surprised to see him in team of the season as he would probably be first to admit he wasn’t at his best for large parts of it. My point still stands that people were massively overstating how poorly he was playing. A lot of the time he was playing just ‘ok’ and getting pelters for it.

We were all pretty disapointed I think as we thought we had signed the best left back in the league so maybe at first there was an over criticism of him. But there was also a long period where his confidence just looked really shot to pieces and his performances would have been criticised even if was a reserve or a loan player, they simply weren't good enough.
So pleased for him how well he's started this season though. His passing and decision making looks a world away from the Touray from mid last season. Long may it continue, it's his position to lose now imo. Rydel will have to work his way in when he comes back.

When Rydel comes back it's going to be 20 mins here and there at most, probably his first start in the BSM. It's going to take him a while to get match sharp. I think Barry and Touray pair up really well covering each other's weaknesses. Barry isn't quite fit yet and doesn't do loads tracking back and Touray is good defensively. Touray doesn't have pace to beat a man; Barry does and draws at least 2 to him. That frees up Touray with space to cross or pass and on the ball he's also good imo. Sometimes all he has to do is get it into Barry and the two link up well.
