Really...? If he's our player come the deadline, surely it's better to keep him until Jan (at least) rather than just pay him off. You'd think he's downed tools or had a shocker of a first season - it wasn't the heights hoped but he certainly contributed and had good games. He adds to the squad and there's a decent chance he could be on the bench for Mansfield. He deserves a chance to prove himself with us in L1 and our new style and playing alongside Bate/Norwood/Camps could suit him. Heard from a couple of different sources that he’s very much persona non grata and the expectation is that he’ll never play for us again. Whether the club are happy to keep paying him for two years is another matter. I’d be very surprised to see him on the bench tomorrow, put it that way. That's really disapointing to hear. It's just as well our other business has been so good as if this is the way he goes out it reflects very badly on everyone involved in his transfer - all too predictable an exit.

It would be a terrible look for the club and the PFA would get involved.

No doubt planning is already under way for next season and we will have a plan for being in L1 and, excitingly, there will be a recuitmwnt plan for Championship should we go up. We could be the first team to play at Everton’s new stadium next season. Shows you how far we have come. Every time I watch them play I'm more and more convinced we'll be their first game in that shiny new stadium next season...take great pleasure in the weekly reminders I give to my Everton mate

Typical our luck. We get Bristol rovers first game back in Bristol.

Could quite easily send him to train with the youth (still at Stockport sports village)? Seems like the team are still mingling with him. Certainly a strange situation but one that’s likely to become clearer in the next week or two if he starts to be featured in match day squads.

Well that's different if something has gone on behind the scenes. I hope not as that would make him even trickier to offload (presuming he's on his way out). Paying him off would make sense if there's no chance he plays for us again. He didn't say or even imply something has gone on behind the scenes and we shouldn't speculate on that. You can see in the messages after yours that things like 'making him train with the kids' has crept into the discussion. This is how misinformation spreads on SM. We don't know anything and once again we're back to Powell-bashing.

If he's persona non grata with 2 years left on his contract on heavy wages, it's pretty safe to assume something may have gone on behind the scenes.

Someone on here was wanting him That was me, though not too worried now that we've seen Diamond can play on either flank. Think he needs regular minutes, which he might have struggled for here, but he's a cracking signing for Grimsby. Lovely touch, able to carry the ball well, good decision-making about when to go alone and when to play someone else in. Still young and raw, but he looked to have the making of a good player when I watched him. One to keep an eye on for the future, similar to Mellon last season.

This. "An unacceptable or unwelcome person" is the dictionary definition. If true, that isn't a normal parting of the ways of someone we've outgrown or the transfer hasn't worked out, especially on his money (and having been involved in 30+ league games for us last season and with half our squad out).

If he does leave the conspiracy theorists and rumour lovers will have a field day. I’d heard he went to Stotts house for dinner and took a bottle of Liebfraumilch with him.
