I wonder if he is able to get himself an Irish passport like Jude Bellingham? An interesting (albeit 15 years ago) bit of background on him highlighted in the Twitter comments. I've not seen the comments on Twitter, but do remember reading about previous charges for homophobic comments and also a betting scandal as a player. I wonder if that's gone against him?

Camps turnaround started last season, it's been great to see. I too doubted him for a long time. Absolutely loving the way he's playing now. Also good to see Wootton getting praise for his contribution so far. It's not just about goals with Wootton it's the hard work he puts in for the benefit of his team mates team. He's been fantastic so far. Agree on Camps performances this season, I am also one of those that struggled to see how he fit in our team. Second half of last season he started getting better and this season he has been terrific. I do wonder how much is playing with much better, technical players in midfield with him - Bates/Norwood. Since January we have (mostly) played two screens/double pivots and it has given him less responsibility than before when replacing Croasdale (he was better in the brief run in a diamond as an 8 but still looked jittery) He is asleep defensively at times and often gets pulled out of position but with a partner in there he gets the support needed and as a result his confidence has grown I think he had been incredibly lucky to remain with us after his first 18 months where he was not just poor but detrimental to the team but even his harshest critics could see there was a player in there and it’s great to see him finally justifying that, he’s been brilliant and I am really enjoying watching him play now, long may it continue

Doubt it had anything to do with it, there were no criminal charges brought for either offence, and in fact the FA cleared him in the case of the alleged homophobic comments.

Spanish football is fiercely supportive of its Coaching community, they are rightly proud of the standards they set and following Brexit it was always going to be difficult for British Coaches to get work permits.

But for Madrid?! If that's the decision, it's a strange one for me as them and Barca pride themselves on being the best of the best. You'd think they'd let them have free reign when picking up talent, and I think there was mention of RM wanting some with experience with English football. I guess the rules aren't that specific and he's ultimately a pretty inexperienced / low profile coach though. It's right that exceptions aren't made for the big two too. Must be a hell of a downer for him if true.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Madrid got their way eventually TBF but there are literally 1,000’s of Spanish Coaches with his level of experience/qualifications

I can see you've corrected him about joining us July. Even if he is referring to L1, you can't judge Mangan's influence from 4 games and attacking play / build up patterns was the one thing DC expressly said he wanted to work on in the international break. Most of our goals have either come from Barry brilliance or quick transitions/long balls into Wootton. Mansfield showed we have work to do breaking sides down. I'm not saying he's a bad coach - far from it. DC just said they'd not had as much time as they'd like with all the injuries and players take time to bed in. It annoys me though that whenever someone is linked with a big job/move they are presented as indispensable for clicks (this one didn't even need it). Maybe I'm wrong and behind the scenes he's already had a big impact. Whatever, if he stays, I hope he does very well for us!

I've been very critical of Camps since joining, would've happily seen him leave in the summer. This season, absolutely class and I've voted for him. Never actually charged with match fixing but the commission had 'serious concerns' about that result. It's a shame that one stupid mistake can cost you for the rest of your life.

Is it really a step up for Mangan anyway?

There's no way that's the reason he's been denied this move. If it was a criminal trial then yes, but it wasn't.

Is it really a step up for Mangan anyway? That was tongue in cheek, right? One has to feel for the guy, must be soul destroying.

It’s the only single positive thing that’s come out of Brexit… for us.. not particularly for him.
