As expected Parkinson gets the managers award, pretty good for being 2nd again. Seems our last minute chance at Mansfield has cost Challinor the award.

Edit - It's probably a good time to play the likes of Bolton, Peterborough and Birmingham though before they settle and get going. We've got them all around December. I think our "easier" start on paper has been good for us though as we typically take a bit of time to get going to and, of course, injuries.

id take youngsters ripping up trees in the national league but unfortunately we don't have any in that league. They are all below that league. Cody and okeke have both been on multiple loans in the nln/nls and have had rave reviews whenever they've been but they find themselves there again Maybe Cody has found his level...if he hasn't broken into our first team by now, especially with our injury crisis last season, then i don't think he ever will, & its no surprise that he was only given a 1 year contract. He can't live off a Cruyff turn for very much longer Am not sure breaking into the team this season is the goal he will have been set. It will undoubtedly have been made clear to him that he needs to develop sufficiently to earn another contract.

There are other youngsters coming up to take their places so occasionally you might lose out somewhere on a player who develops later.

Very true Timbers but if he shows sufficient development he will be kept on. Our backroom team will be all over it.

Probably controversial but he looks like half the player we had at the start of last season to me. Clearly capable of magic moments like we’ve seen but he’s not really dominating games like he did. Also, given he’s now had a month with us and been playing every week, he still looks miles off fitness wise.

He's playing against better defences (and still ripped apart Blackpool). He's still not fully fit. Wootton took months to look right coming off his injury and has only hit his best this season. I think when he joined DC said he was about 3 weeks behind where they wanted him too. Presumably with Villa having a later preseason and being cautious with his prior injury. I agree we've not seen the blistering pace of the start of last season. He's still quick, or particularly when dribbling as his control is a lot better than most, but I hope he hasn't lost that extra gear. I think he's still getting comfortable pushing himself. He does need to get fitter though generally - both to last the full 90 and offer more tracking back. It's a scary thought though that this is Barry at like 60-70%.

Exactly, 3 years ago he was a promising 17 year old with the potential to break into the first team. He's now nearly 20 & doesn't appear to have really progressed very far in that time, & there are now a queue of 16/17 year olds with the potential to overtake him in the next couple of years.

I think that's to be expected though surely, he was out for a very long time and is only just getting back to full fitness - has he even played 90 minutes yet? And with that being said he's still scored 4 in 5, that's how good he is.

Not really controversial...i think he's still a bit tentative about going full on 100% & his injury is still at the back of his mind. Would imagine he's pushing himself a little bit more each game to see whether there is any reaction, & hopefully he'll soon be up to speed & confident that the surgery has been a complete success. He said in an interview that he's constantly listening to his body

but I hope he hasn't lost that extra gear. That's my fear, think back to Michael Owen and how he said he could never go full pelt after that hamstring injury (same one as Barry I think). Now Owen was still a great player after that, and we're seeing from Louie that he obviously still is, but would be a shame if a little edge has been taken away from him. (obviously things have moved on medically, even since Owen days, so hopefully he hasn't lost anything and it's just a fitness / confidence thing as others have said)

Given the severity of his injury too it's not unlikely that it might even take up to or over 12 months to even begin to repeat his pure acceleration numbers. Scar tissue will still take a long time to recover particularly around the hamstring and if he rips it again within that period it will not be good news. He needs to get 12 months of football under his belt without aggravating the same injury and he will kick on properly. It's why coming back to us was a good move for him. Score around 10 - 15 goals in a comfortable environment, avoid ripping his hamstring again and then go smash it in the Championship.

It's revisionism to say he dominated matches last season IMO. He's a game changer with moments of real quality in the final third and has shown that both last season and already this season. The bit I agree with is the fitness element, he's not lasting as long in matches but Challinor has already alluded to this.

It's rare but it can happen, I remember Ben Whitfield running the show at home to Wrexham in 2021 in one of his few County appearances.
