Are you worried he would choose Oldham over us? Because he won’t. He won’t have his arm twisted. If he ends up there and not here at the end of his contract it will be because we haven’t offered him anything not because of any “arm twisting”. SH, l didn’t mean to mislead you, l wasn’t thinking that he would stay and sign for Oldham, l was saying that in January any one could bid cheaply for him as he is, l believe out of contract in the summer. As County think highly of him, l hope Jack will sign an extension if offered. That has nothing to do with him going out on loan to get minutes. Something he desperately needs.

Do County though see him as a league one player even with a decent loan spell at latics. Who would he actually replace in the starting 11. At best a place on the bench and you can argue even that. Nothing wrong in dropping to the NL especially with a team with a decent chance of promotion in a bang average league which it is this season. the only way stretton comes back to us this season is if mellon gets recalled or we have loads of injurys. If he comes back because hes banging them in every game then id be abit worried because you would then think that our other 3 strikers aren't scoring enough. Stretton isn't a goalscoring machine and before he joined us permanently he played 44 times and scoring 6 goals. In his career hes scored 11 in 64 so 1 in 6. Due to injurys hes not really played constant football (before joining us permanently he had, had a few injurys) hes simply not going to get that with us which is probably what he needs as still a young player who can develop. I like stretton, seems to be a nice person and liked in the dressing room but if we give him a new contracts even just 1 year to start with he will be 25 at the start of it. Which is how old olaofe will be in a month and a bit. Olaofe has played 163 times scoring 53 times so close to 1 in 3. Personally, keep him at oldham until end of season or move him to a league 2 club and re assess come end of season He wouldn't be 25 at the start of a new contract; he's just turned 23 in September and he's out of contract in the summer. If he were to be offered a new one then he'd be 23 when it started.

Unless a player reaches the veteran stage their age should not come into whether a contract is given or not. Not every player improves with age and some actually peak much younger than stretton and drop down the leagues. some quicker than others. Back in the NLN we and opponents had players with good CV but that was it.

Who would have thought DC would be saying that a month or so ago? I still think we're weak on the right hand side of defence though. Get Mingi fully fit and MSH back then we're talking.
I wouldn't say the squad is too big, especially with our tendency for injuries. We had 13 fit, outfield players at the start of the season. We've got to be looking to move Powell on though as you can't be on his wages and not even making the 18. Whether we can do is another question though.

Presume he was the one escorted down the touchline that night, I couldn't tell who it was from the stand.

It wouldn’t take much to happen for us to need Powell, it’s a long, long season. The fact that we could call on players of that quality in the run in last season made all the difference in that run of victories that led us to the title.

There have been rumours of a falling out but even without those (which may be rubbish) he's clearly persona non grata. In pre-season he was telling fans he was fully fit, and then according to the club he was injured, despite DC saying previously that Powell knows his own body better than anyone. He's made the bench for one league game this season and wasn't brought on, his two appearances have come in the Trophy. Added to that, it's been well-documented that he wasn't a Challinor signing. There was also a fair bit of talk about him being offered to clubs in the summer, and I was told by someone who's usually spot on about these things that he had talks with Crewe but couldn't come to an agreement on wages. I'd be very surprised if he played a league game for us again tbh.

Possibly you can add Bailey with him who has dissapointed since gaining his contract who could depart in january and make a loss on both.

Powell could have easily made an appearance by now. He's clearly deliberately being held back for whatever reason. This for me is a massive shame.
There was a Wigan fan on TSBW and you could hear the joy in his voice when he was recalling Powell's days in the championship at Wigan. Obviously this was when he was younger and in much better form but he's only 30 now.
We've got 2 more years of him unless we give him an absolutely massive payoff. He made 36 appearances last season and was looking better in the second half of the season. Unless he's assaulted DC or done something else heinous I don't see why we're holding him back. He's still training with the team isn't he? Can we not just stick him on the bench or something, I think his creativity could be very usefull.

Are we holding him back or the fact is there are better players available who have a future in the game and not a past. At best he only had the odd decent parts of games that were only remembered as the odd instance of a game he played in. The free kick at grimsby was about the best thing he did. Out of those 36 appearances how many were off the bench or starts he eventually got subbed off.

I saw him at the main entrance before the Orient game, happily chatting to fans. From his demeanor, he didn't look like he was in the doghouse. Not saying he's happy not to be playing but still seems to be part of the overall squad.

Agree, I can’t be told he couldn’t have had more of an effect on games that Collar and Fiorini have shown so far. As you say, only a few years ago he was the standout player at this level and he’s still within his prime years. Unfortunately seems like the ship has sailed but would love to be proven wrong.
