Got back home a couple of hours a go and have to say being the crowd for the Elton set was pretty special. Thought his voice was good although I was fearing it would be like Blondie, who for the most part couldn't hear. Made a half arsed attempt to go and see Arctic Monkeys but gave up because of the crowds approaching the Pyramid Stage. Sounded like I didn't miss much according to the others in my group who went, and I'm not a huge fan anyway. As above Becky Hill was great, as was two hours of Craig Charles playing funky remixes of classics in the blazing sun. Saw a green 93/94 away County shirt being worn from afar which looked on point. I repped this years Argentina kit which got a fair few compliments, as well as someone shouting/singing "you're not shit anymore" at me - which I'll take. I'm a big fan of Charles' Saturday night funk and soul show on 6 music so was hoping to catch his set on Saturday morning/afternoon but didn't manage to in the end. He's on at Moovin festival in Etherow park August bank holiday. Seen him there before & been to a couple of his club nights. Always good.

Went to see the Urban Voodoo Machine for the umpteenth time at the Waterloo in Blackpool last night. I'm always being told I've got weird tastes but nevertheless I don't understand why such a unique and entertaining outfit don't attract bigger crowds. There's a few dates left on their 20th Anniversary Tour if anyone fancies it.

Definite Gogol Bordello vibes - I know Chris Coco and Rob da Bank liked them when they used to be on the radio, but then their show was always pretty niche anyway…

Love the Vini Reilly quote about Mark That guitarist has no idea what he is doing at all, but it’s strange because what he is trying to do is potentially the most inventive stuff that anyone has played for 10 years. Them in a nutshell

Them in a nutshell The Happy Mondays were never the best band, but they will forever be my favourite - I just loved the chaos But that chaos masked a real musicianship - great songwriting and wonderful lyrics I’ve got to know Seth Leppard a bit (Black Grape) and he is another who just does what he wants on stage - and again he is utterly brilliant

Feeling a bit sorry watching the Beeb’s coverage of the Reading Festival that Bicep were on in the daytime. That kind of music is best after dark… And when ripped to the tits!

Not Tuesday, and only tangentially related to music, but I remember going to see Bill Drummond at the Cornerhouse where he was touring a vaguely similar artwork made of money worth in total less than the asking price of the work. Danish artist told to repay museum €67,000 after turning in blank canvasses www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-66847139Sadly, it was the moment I learned why they say you should never meet your heroes…
