No direct trains from Stockport to Nottingham and a rail replacement bus to Sheffield. Another away day ruined. Doncaster the same I believe. I had a good look at this last night. There is 1 train going from Piccadilly circa 10am, the long way round via Huddersfield, to arrive in Sheffield just after 12; then a train from Sheffield to Notts to arrive at Half 1. Not ideal, but do-able. However.. The way back, you can get to Sheffield but it'll be a Rail Replacement Bus back over this way regardless of how you look at it.. There is a 1746 from Notts to Sheffield that most would get anyway - if by some miracle it arrives on time and you can make the 2 minute connection for the last train to Victoria (the long way round again), it's achievable, but still a pain in the arse, unless you settle for rail replacement bus back as contingency. If you're happy to take the replacement bus from this way to Sheffield, that'll work and remains the most straightforward way. It's the Transpennine Route Upgrade working at Grindleford / Dore which blocks the logical way to Sheffield - 20th Jan is the 1st weekend of 4 of the works, Doncaster the next week is the same thing in the same place / week 2 of 4 consecutive weekends. I haven't looked at alternatives for Donny, but Notts at least, it's realistically Replacement Bus to Sheff - Train to Notts (and in reverse), Coach or minibus for the entirety, or in the car.

The big surprise is fans expecting trains to run nowadays. They are beyond a joke and those expecting them to be run with out any cancellations either need to get into the real world i,m afraid. Glad back in 1959 i had a local railway station with a direct train to stockport otherwise god knows who i,d be supporting now. With my luck it would have been bradford park avenue.

My wording is misleading, Grimsby weekend 10th/11th it's disruptive Sunday only, unlike Notts and Donny which include the Saturday.

Then you,ll be shitting yourself all the game just in case there is a cancellation of your homebound train. Be like playing russian roulette with a train company.

I think there is a viable route if you can get to Wilmslow.
Wilmslow to Birmingham and then Birmingham to Notts .

Then you,ll be shitting yourself all the game just in case there is a cancellation of your homebound train. Be like playing russian roulette with a train company. Services have already been halved to one every 2 hours on that route, it’d be a high risk manoeuvre to choose trains for Grimsby away

It's almost £60pp before railcards though. It would be £25pp to do it the replacement bus route / 25 quid if the trains were actually running normally. It's shit, basically!
