A word on Tanto. There was a suggestion he wasn’t ready for leading the line for the whole season but he’s now on 19 and surely on target for the benchmark 20 all good strikers target, never gives up and showed great strength and composure for his goal last night, could easily have gone down. Not the finished article yet but been a great season for him. He was excellent second half yesterday. Good movement moved their centre halves around, held it up well, took his goal well.

If all goes to plan, then it’s one of the teams I’ll be looking forward to us waving goodbye to 👋🏻 It’s bad enough having to share our club’s initials with Swansea and St*ke, but that lot

Should be a statue for Paddy Almost plays as many minutes as Fraser and Ethan. The team were awful first half but he kept trying in what is not his preferred position and came good second half. What a work ethic Just an observation on Richards I can see his quiet personality in some of his play. If something doesn’t come off he momentarily stops rather than immediately responding. Interesting prospect though.

I'm just not really seeing what Wootton's USP is. He can be OK in a few areas and when he's OK in 3 or 4 areas he can have a decent enough game. He's 6/10 for goalscoring, 6/10 in the air, 4/10 for movement, 7/10 for on the floor link up, 4/10 for pace, 6/10 for physicality. He's a decent player at League Two to be be part of 4 strikers on rotation. I can' see him troubling League One, sadly. Its hard to tell though until he gets the chance. When we got back into the league some managed to adjust and improve whilst others fell by the wayside. His main problem is his lack of pace for me.

It's a shame we lost Barry for most of this season as that looked a great partnership & I think Tanto would have already surpassed the 20 goal mark with Barry alongside him.

Whenever Wootton is missing & we have to play it on the deck, we look a different team. Is it my imagination, or does Sarce seem more prominent when Wootton isn't in the team ?
You could have hit on something there as he never seemed able to get into the game last night. Still feel Tanto looks even better without Wootton being in the side. Its no disrespect to Wootton as other players in the past have played better with others in the side for some reasons. Sarce had a great end to last season, when Wootton was missing, & was our main playmaker this season when Tanto & Barry were our front 2, but since Wootton has been in the side, he's not been as influencial. Nothing against Wootton personally, but i think we're a far better team with a quick mobile frontline & our pass & move game. Both our goals last night were results of us playing the ball on the deck & passing through Salford. Honestly don't think the Wootton/Oloafe partnership works for us.

DC mentioned speaking to Villa yesterday about Richards but I’m guessing that wouldn’t have been the main reason for the call. It is now looking like 4 games or so at best for LB. You would have thought Villa would prefer to let him strengthen slowly and increase through a big pre season. We will see.

Both our goals were as a result of us playing the ball on the deck……
With Wootton being involved in the first and then assisting the second?
I see we’ve nominated our scapegoat again.

Just why though did it take 45 minutes, a half time talk and two changes to realise that the opposition with one of the worst defences had a weakness somewhere when they looked decent in the air.

You could have hit on something there as he never seemed able to get into the game last night. Still feel Tanto looks even better without Wootton being in the side. Its no disrespect to Wootton as other players in the past have played better with others in the side for some reasons. I think there's some truth in the theory that our defenders are more easily tempted to go long when Wootton is on the pitch. And I agree that Tanto tends to look sharpest with a pacy player alongside him. But I'd say people are slightly overlooking that: A) Apart from about 15 games when Barry was fit and the team was firing, we've tended to go long even when Wootton hasn't been playing. Over the course of the last couple of years, we've looked for that ball too often and not been brave enough to play through the lines, regardless who's been up front. It's more obvious when Wootton plays (and I accept more tempting for the defenders), but there have been plenty of miserable games where we've watched it sail over shorter strikers' heads. B) Wootton is most effective when the ball is played into his chest. He's a superb hold-up and combination player - his through-balls in the last few games have been worthy of a number 10. He's good in the air, but he looks strongest when we're building, not just pumping it up to him. So it's not his ideal style either. I think it's definitely possible to have him on the pitch and play good football, but it relies on players being brave enough and skilful enough to play out (having the likes of Pye, Wright and Kane in the back line will definitely help with that - the likes of Cass and Byrne really struggle). And it potentially means trying to get more pace around him, in addition to Tanto. As I say above, I'd be very tempted to try a front three - could see two of Tanto, Richards and Barry (when back) being very effective in flanking Wootton or Madden, depending on the game.
