I wasn't sure of the penalty decision from where I was, and from the main camera angle... but that pitchside camera dispels any questions, Pye barges into the bloke. I agree that angle gives a clearer view but it still looks like a legitimate shoulder barge to me with minimal force, anywhere else on the pitch the opposing player probably doesn't even go down but this is the modern game I suppose, any contact whatsoever in the box & a penalty is going to be given.

Not so sure. It looks more of a pen shout to me from that angle, or at least giving the ref a decision to make. Pye is the wrong side and runs into him without any attempt to play the ball. As you say, there's not loads of force and it's from the shoulder but it's a much clearer pen shout than I first thought. Of course, Touray is nudged in the back to misdirect his header in the build up... Nice angle for a different perspective and feels like you were there. Shows Madden's second to be a tougher finisher than it first looked. Places it well between two diving defenders.

If they manage to score first I can then see them changing to a mega defensive strategy, luckily that won't happen and we'll win 1 - 3. Not only is this guy a good looking bloke, he's also awesome at predictions!

It’s nuts that that’s a penalty but a defender putting both his arms up through the armpits of an attacker and bear hugging him to the point where he can’t move is fine

I genuinely think that, with the ref having given the pen, we’re lucky Pye didn’t get a red. It was denial of a goal scoring opportunity, where he’s not made an attempt to play the ball so the double jeopardy rule didn’t apply. Whether someone thinks it was a penalty or not under the circumstances we got away with it.

The ref didn’t even book Pye which makes me think he knows full well he got the penalty decision wrong, which he clearly did as it was shoulder to shoulder and their guy just hasn’t been strong enough in the challenge.

I thought he booked Touray for (presumably impolitely) pointing out he'd been fouled before the penalty incident.
Think a red for DOGSO would have been harsh. There's at least one other defender coming in with their player not clearly having that ball under control.
And anyway, can you have a GSO when Ben's there to stop you...?

He booked Touray for impolitely suggesting to the liner that he might have been shoved in the back from the initial ball down the line. Which he was. Considerably more of a foul than the one he gave the pen for.

We both chose the word ‘impolitely’. On my part because I just can’t help but feel that Touray is a really nice lad….🤣

Premier League experience or not.

Premier League experience or not. I thought he was hopeless. In the light of that Tanto was particularly daft knocking the ball into the net after the flag had gone up

I'm the biggest critic of the modern 'win a foul' phenomenon you'll ever meet; things like VAR accepting the Chelsea injury time dive the other week infuriate me... unless your opponent has actively stopped you from continuing on as normal then it isn't a foul... but that's what's happened here. The Sutton forward is lining up to take on Ben and doesn't even seem to anticipate Pye shoulder barging him, it's that collision that destabilises him, clear foul.

You're right it's a foul because Pye checked the players momentum with the contact & I can accept by modern standards it's a penalty albeit a very soft one. If the situation was reversed though & it was a County player getting nudged over for the penalty I'd of been laughing my c%*k off at winning the penalty.
