I know I'm probably not in line with mainstream opinion (or lazy comedy slags*), but... well, he's not German, is he? Neither was the Queen. Charles' great great great grandmother married a German. And you have to go back to 1727 to reach an ancestor that wasn't born in England. I get that with royalty it's all about houses, and bloodlines and all that upper class inbred bollocks, but... German? How many of us could claim our current nationality if one of our 3x great grandparents wasn't the same? Thing that always particularly amuses me about the 'Royals are all Germans' argument is the people making it are generally the same people who are quite offended when someone refers to a British person whose grandparents were born elsewhere as Pakistani / Jamaican / Nigerian etc.

Kraftwerk German, Scorpions German, Real McCoy German, Boney M German, Belouis Some German, Rammstein German, Milli Vanilli German, but didn't sing and neither did the bloke in Boney M.

Is he not Charles Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg? For his father? End of the day they’re all interbred. Even Diana (the people’s princess dontchaknow) was something like Charlie’s 15th cousin. Well I never. I didn't know the Royal family were from New Mills. Are they related to Red Hatter then ?

You've just described my childhood football experience! I'm 5'7" (and a bit!) so you can guess I wasn't the tallest as a kid either. I was a goalkeeper, playing on said pitches with said goals, but with something akin to Lake Titicaca consuming the the centre of the goal line! I was covered, no caked in mud regularly, as if jumping wasn't hard enough as a short arse, try it wigged down on wet kit and thick, wet mud! 🤣 Wasn’t Hollywood Park pitch cinders if I remember correctly. 1970s/1980's. Pretty sure it was grass when I played on it in very early 80’s. Maybe more correct to say it should have been grass but wasn’t always much of it present.

Not a clue to be fair, all the pitches I played on were in Tameside or the outskirts of Manchester that border Tameside. Some resembled a peat bog!

Depends how it's done. I usually employ it to expose the simplicity of the stance of the xenophobic patriot. Such as we've seen this week. The Royal Family generally pose a very difficult problem for that group given everything to do with their history. Whether or not you consider the current Royal Family to be worth anything, as an institution they don't stand much scrutiny in terms of many of the things the more gobshitey patriotic element hold dear.

So the deal was done 2 days before Greece. I think gave Carsley too much stick. He must have known and it probably explains his experimental lineup (what did he have to lose?) and noncommital answers as to whether he wanted the job. It's pretty shitty by the FA imo placing him in a difficult spot. It almost certainly explains his non committal answers to journalists questions. No point in saying you want it when you know someone else already has the job. He was poorly trained for media - the response should always have been the same - I am here for 6 matches and FÃ will make a decision. Journos would have got bored after the 100th time he had trotted out the same line.

The correct response is 'Are you going to keep your job when your editor realises you're wasting everyone's time with your f*cking stupid questions?'

Yeah. Just to be clear, I’m not suggesting the King is German. Just that the family held up by a lot of these people as the embodiment of Britishness has relatively recent heritage from countries across continental Europe and elsewhere, much like a lot of the population in that respect. It’s a good thing. It makes us interesting as a country. So arbitrary ideas of Englishness or Britishness aren’t just about where you’re born. All the performative nonsense from the usual lot who are pretending to be outraged we now have a German manager is exactly that. Just blatantly bollocks. The guy wanted the job, speaks perfect English, knows this country well from living here, seems to get it. He’s welcome.

The rest is made up of French, German, Scandinavian and 0.1% West African. So all this English until I die shit is just rubbish.
