It’s basically standard practice in cities, they apply for a car park so they can earn revenue whilst they finalise the development and wait for planning permission. I don’t know how big the land is but wouldn’t surprise me if it will be used for paid match day or corporate parking. They’ve said it’s for press and media haven’t they? Not exactly. They cited the need for more parking for this reason for the need for more parking. How they divvy it up the parking between players, corporate and media may be very different.

Also on that, a three year planning application doesn’t mean it would be a car park for three years. Could be that they plan on redeveloping starting a year or two from now but want the cushion in case of delays. It’s basically standard practice in cities, they apply for a car park so they can earn revenue whilst they finalise the development and wait for planning permission. I don’t know how big the land is but wouldn’t surprise me if it will be used for paid match day or corporate parking. 0.4 hectares. The planning application suggests it’s not a commercial venture of a car park.

Is it a case of changing land usage for a period of time to aid getting planning permission for a stand at a later date?

God I cannot wait until we see some plans for re-development.
Started going County in 96 and in 26 years of being here the most exciting things that have happened with the ground have been the RE becoming seated and latterly the nice seats in the RE and CE concourse renewal. Well overdue for some new stand action.

Is it a case of changing land usage for a period of time to aid getting planning permission for a stand at a later date? That’s probably a benefit, but I think the overriding rationale is simply that they need the parking spaces.

Who owns that triangle of land south of the containers? Would be vital to any redevelopment, surely

Plus it removes the issue of demolishing a building to build the new stand when it comes to the planning process

Who owns that triangle of land south of the containers? Would be vital to any redevelopment, surely County do, as far as I know. It wasn't part of the land acquired for the Booth Street development and I think the club bought it just after the takeover.

That's all ours as far as I'm aware. Initially the Booth Street development went right up to the ground (not including the bungalow site) then it was re-submitted with that part taken out. They initially wanted a flat block right up against the ground for some stupid reason. There's plenty of space there for good sizeable redevelopment, then even more behind the Pop Side. As I always bang on about, it's long overdue! We can finally have full access around the ground at some point, something I don't think EP has ever had. Would love to see some proper plans as would most of us!

I'm amazed at the amount of space behind the Railway End shown in the photo above. When I used to stand at the top of the terracing to watch the goings-on in the loco shed in 1966-68, I would have sworn it was much closer than that.

Is there still a path that goes from the Railway End to somewhere near the bridge, or the old Booth St entrance? Remember using it when the RE was a home terrace in the 90s.

I think the loco shed is now Manchester South signaling centre which is the building slap behind the railway end.
