What areas with SK postcode can get to EP direct via a train? I know Hazel Grove, Davenport, Heaton Chapel can, but what other areas can get trains direct to Stockport? Think it's bus to the town centre for most SK people using public transport, and then the decision whether to walk up the hill, or get another bus for the short journey. SK postcode? Heaton Chapel, Woodsmoor, Davenport, Hazel Grove, Cheadle Hulme, Bramhall, Poynton, Adlington, Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, New Mills New Town, Doveholes, Buxton, Alderley Edge, Wilmslow, Handforth Basically, Heaton Chapel, the Hazel Grove/Sheffield line as far as Hazel Grove, the Stoke/Macc line as far as Adlington, the Buxton line all the way, the Alderley Edge/Wilmslow,/Handforth line. Quite a few if you include the SK postcode area. They are also building a station in Cheadle which I think is on a line which will also go through to Stockport station as well.

We have parked the car about a 10min walk away from EP for years and never found it a problem A good natter about the game walking to the ground and a good moan on the way back apart from the obvious I understand not everyone is blessed with good mobility, but most are so parking shouldn't be a problem Get them steps up on your smart watch

Parked on the same 2/3 streets for the past 20 years I've been driving, and the 10 or so years before that when I used to go with family friends. Tbh, even if they made the whole of SK3 permit parking I've got a friend who lives locally so can just use her guest passes. Happy days. As I've said before, until there's a means of transport that gets me from Sale to Edgeley as quick and for a similar cost as driving myself I'll always be using the car.

Aye parking is not an issue at EP. Absolutely loads of parking within a short walk.
Appreciate that there's different levels of mobility but anyone who has a blue badge can park right next to the ground so that's not an issue either.

So really should the club be looking at moving from EP. Think most would be against this including me as i do not mind getting to the ground a couple of hours before KO. Others either cannot or unwilling to do this and equally unwilling for various reasons to use any type of public transport to come. There are more than the issue of size to think about and discuss before the bulldozers arrive. I don't think not being able to park right next to the ground will be the make or break issue that makes someone decide not to come to County. And for evert person that is the case for there will be plenty more who are happy to make alternative arrangements, park further away and walk, walk, public transport, park and ride. Especially so if you present not driving to games as the norm, whilst emphasising both the lack of nearby parking and the central-ish location and great provision of public transport. And public houses 🤣

The Main Stand besides being extended will presumably be re-roofed; the stanchions obviously need removing, but will it also include building into the roof a proper modern new eyrie for Jon Keighren and the TV facilities, or will it and JK go in the new South Stand ? First thoughts are that TV should be moved to the Main Stand. Maintaining the distinctive frontage of the Main Stand - if done well - should ensure EP keeps some proper character so often lacking in some modern stadiums; I expect the Vita teams to get this right, though it will be interesting to see just how bold they are with the design as so often, compromises can be a disappointment both aesthetically and functionally. I'm not sure you could extend the main stand, at its current height, without needing stanchions. You'd either need a cantilever support, which would change its façade significantly, or a goalpost-style - as with the CE, or at Blackburn, for example - which would probably mean the stand would need to be twice as high as it is at the moment, and given the extra seats are proposed to be from 2079 t0 3500, this clearly isn't something under consideration. Obviously we'll see the plans, and we're probably about 7-8 years away at the earliest anyway, but I suspect if we want to keep the facade and just extend the existing roof at its current height, it'll mean stanchions.
I'm thinking the Main Stand is the 'nice to have' expansion, whereas the Railway/Popside expansions are 'necessary'. We can spend on upgrading those two stands to take it up to somewhere around 18000 capacity. By 2030ish, we'd then have a more realistic idea as to whether 'build it and they will come' has proved to be a valid strategy. (I'm assuming the build will take longer than expected)
If it gets to that stage, and we've spent the last few years bouncing between League 1/2, with average crowds up at around 8 -10k, and the top crowd being 15k for a league two play off, there's a nice get out clause where the club can say something like 'we've looked into it, and there's no way we can do this upgrade why keeping the facade/tradition of the main stand' We end up with EP as an 18467 seater, with two modern stands, exec boxes and all that jazz and everyone's happy.
Equally, if we're now looking like we're becoming an established Championship club, averaging 12-14k, and have sold out a couple of times for big Cup games against Liverpool/Newcastle or someone, it's a much easier sell to say we'll go for 20k after all.

I think it's worth pointing out that the expectation will be to expand resident permit parking only areas and increase patrols. So on street parking 10 minutes walk from EP could well end up being in the resident permit parking only zone.

In the same boat but from Rusholme. Bus involves 30mins of walking and a 35-45min journey depending on the traffic. Door to turnstile in the car is 20mins.

From near Middleton I’m usually on a bus to town, train to EP, which is an hour if it goes right, even though driving would take 25 mins if the M60 is clear. But I’d rather be able to have a pint before/after, even if it means an Uber for the last town to home part to get back for kids’ bath/bedtime!
The only way that most people could park close is to move to a flat pack on a motorway junction and that would be the death of the club.

We're quite lucky in High Lane we have a bus that takes us to Greek Street and a train from Middlewood, although they're every two hours, I'd only drive for certain night matches if I'm pushed for time.

During our nln days I managed to park around the methodist church on the side streets there. Now I'm more towards the side streets around the alex pub. More than happy to park anywhere from the alex to Brinksway and walk * * I might change my mind when I have my youngest with me in a couple of years who might not be happy to walk.

Way things are at the moment we are guarenteed 25 home games at EP with an outside chance of a few more if we are lucky in cup draws. For me this is only a slight inconveniance to where in lived in tugby which was a five mins walk to the train station. We had a problem 6 days a week from 6am to about 8pm from commuters and shoppers parking there. Its this idea of that spot infront of your house being yours that needs addressing.

Thats like the extension from the bradford away thread. Last time i went to valley parade i used the bus. Problem was it got me home 15 minutes later than it would for a game at EP. That was less than 10 miles against nearly 50 driving to EP.

I would say that for large portions of Edgeley there is the problem with commuters parking on the streets before heading to the station as well. There are more and more calls for resident parking permits more generally, not just because of match days.
