I thought he was poor overall last season. He had a two month spell just after Christmas when he was really good, it was just after the fallout after Gannon criticised the culture and Hogan came out on social media saying everyone was pulling together. He seemed to just start keeping it simple, and was excellent. Lasted for a few weeks after Rusk came in and then he started making more and more mistakes towards the end of the season and this has continued this season. He can have the odd excellent game, but the mistakes are getting more and more pronounced this season. He was immense against West Ham too. Proper captain's performance. Yes, agree with this. This was one of the games in the spell when I thought he was excellent - it was maybe the 6 weeks under Gannon before this and then the 3 or 4 weeks after this.

Lol that is so true. He must look forward to overnight trips as he's not being woken up during the night. I bet he has no problem with curfews and things like that. I bet he's in bed for 9 and lie in, sounds great to me I get up with the kids 5.20, or 06.00 everyday! Also great point my performance dropped at work after my second. New borns are just so hard twin's as well. I imagine football and fixed term contracts put pressure on Hogan. He's still not preformed well though. I get that having a new baby or babies is hard & I think everyone should be entitled to paternity leave regardless of profession but let's have it right he's a professional footballer, plays twice a week at most & probably trains for 2-3 hours a day, his missus is probably on maternity leave so he'll have plenty of time to kop a nap here & there. When my daughter was born i was on permanent 12 hour night shifts, usually 60 hour weeks, i'd finish the night shift then be up with my daughter most of the day when my wife went back to work after her maternity leave, I was lucky if i could grab two or 3 hours kip before doing the next 12 hour shift, how i didn't lose an arm in my machine at work due to my zombified state is beyond me! There's millions of people up & down the country doing the same crap right now & they have my upmost sympathy, however, footballers, even at our level don't get the same level of sympathy, most of them don't know what real work is! makes my piss boil when i hear about these pampered players at the top level saying they're tired because they've played 3 games in a week! I get what you are both saying, I have 3 boys between the age of 1 and 9 and it's hard work, especially as number 2 has a form of Cerebral Palsy and additional/educational needs. You just have to get on with it all. But didn't Hogan's partner have twins? Pregnancies involving twins can be extremely complicated, often babies are premature , which having been there with number 2 I wouldn't wish on any one, but they can be late as well and the later it gets the more dangerous it can be. I'm not surprised his mind was elsewhere.

Bloomin heck that must have been stressful! Our second was born in peak lockdown in April 20. My wife was shielding so first 2 weeks I had my then 3 year old all day without being able to leave the house. Work was bad prior to the birth I work for dhsc and was chasing PPE before I went away. But handed it over after the birth. It got really busy around Christmas again but fortunately we were out of new born stage.

However i,ll get my lad to show this thread to his mum and hear what she thinks about it. My lad was 4 weeks premature with a few ins and outs of the maternity unit before birth. Along with that she had a son with spina bifada with very little movement in his legs without a wheelchair. Somehow she managed with complete ease with a prem new born and him. I held back 2 weeks holiday till the birth and she was glad i went back as i was more in the way than an actual help.

He has been a little dodgy lately. But I thought yesterday he was immense and played a real Captain’s role inspite of his injury. Courageous leadership to earn a valuable victory.

It's difficult to overstate/remember how bad and feeble we were under Steve. Players who are now the backbone of a (hopefully) title winning team looked absolute duffers back then. As for my thoughts on Hogan now, I still think when he plays a simple game he's one of the best in the division and more than good enough for this level. He's great at defending. But he makes me nervous when he tries to overplay or move further forward because he gives it away too often.

He raced back to make a vital block the first time they got through on goal. 5 mins later DC was yelling at him to "F**king look lively!" which I thought was a bit harsh. He did a good job yesterday.

He, like pretty much everyone, has vastly improved since Steve left - and he’s in my first choice first 11 on merit. Also fair play to him for performing while dealing with his mental health and while dealing with a traumatic time at home which hopefully is much smoother now.
I agree with suedehead he’s at his best when he’s keeping it simple and not overplaying it and is a threat from set pieces.
I’m still not having it that he was our best player last season though 😂

It blows my mind how often he dives in got challenges he's never going to win. It's infuriating, just stay on your feet man.

Jeez, some vitriolic comments on those opening couple of pages, although I guess it's easy to be wise now we're in a much better place. For what it's worth I think he's been pretty consistent since that goal at Barnet, and though he won't be in with a shout for player of the year he deserves a lot of recognition and praise for turning around what was a pretty desperate situation on the pitch. I hope things have improved for him off the pitch too.
