I just started watching the highlights of this and came on here to say that what Powell did with his shot on that early corner was what I thought it was. He’s kicked it into his own foot.
Does look like he was tripped after though, which wasn’t what I thought in real time.
Now I should probably get back to watching the highlights and stop getting distracted by this place 😂
Edit - actually. Watched it again. He didn’t even kick it into his foot. He’s just kicked it wide.
Ref is definitely pointing at the spot, rather than at the goal line though. Weird that.

They are different. Goal kick you point to the goal with a straight arm parallel to the ground, penalty you point to the spot. This ref just pointed to the spot when he should have been pointing to the goal.

I thought at the time it was a penalty and still do having watched the replay a couple of times. Yes Powell kicks it wide, but the defender then tackles him late. Very similar to the second penalty in terms of the ball being pretty much out of play and then contact being made.

Reading some of the postmatch comments on interviews etc. and there's a lot of Notts will be right up there next season if they can sort out their defence or cut out the errors. That's true - as was shown by early this season, though they still rode their luck. They also definitely need a better calibre of defender. But, I think people forget that the defence and attack aren't two separate units independent from each other. So much of our defending comes from the front and the workrate and press of the likes of Madden, Wootton, Tanto and Sarcevic. Similarly, whilst Crowley, Jones and Langstaff are class, part of the reason why Notts have scored so many is their shape is all about the attack. I can't say I have watched them loads but Tuesday night it was basically 3-3-4 if not 3-2-5 with the wingbacks (who really are wingers) so high. Jones gets more time and space that way but equally he leaves a big gap behind. Their style is also pass at all costs. Their CBs have been recruited for that. When it works it looks great and they were better than us at building attacks from deep vs a set defence. We struggled with that in the first 20 without Tanto's threat in behind. But again that comes at a cost and error then came, plus their CBs simply aren't as good defenders. Where am I going? Even if Notts recruit much better defenders, I can't see them suddenly halving the goals they concede and scoring the same, which is basically what they need. They need to play 4-3-3 imo or at least only play Nemane and Jones as wingbacks vs the lesser sides that will sit in all day. Regardless, I think they'll have an issue that, at this level, you won't find a defender that can do it all. There needs to be a bit of pragmatism and playing the percentages. Mixing it up and going long to pose a different threat, can also enhance your attack! They're great entertainment - both for goals and style (I think they played us off the park for periods at EP). So I'll watch on with interest, especially to see if anyone comes in for their stars in the summer. They need a midfield engine room to protect an already ropey back line that is error strewn, that Bostock can't run or get about the pitch they've missed Palmer hugely and playing 3 centre backs that are slow and cumbersome with wingbacks so high is suicide for them, they either need to recruit those side defenders that can cover the ground better or personally I'd be looking towards a 4231 there, if they struggle for legs in middle of park they need that double pivot to protect back line their central defenders then have some protection and wont get exposed down the sides get some natural full backs in Theyve a deep lying playmaker in Palmer to come back and receive ball from the defence and link to their already potent attack, they need to add a shield alongside him someone like Croasdale who looks unlikely get a deal with us would be type of battle hardened, no frills midfielder they need with discipline to allow others express themselves They've then got Nemane and Jones for wide areas who can cause problems and you are unloading a bit of defensive responsibilities off them to focus on their strengths, theyve a great goalscoring 10 in Crowley, then options up top in Jatta as your more Dicko type 9 or Langstaff as one who can run channels for them and be more fox in box type

Just watched the highlights, & its noticeable how much this title meant to Powell, Madden & Sarcevic, considering everything else they've achieved in the game. I know its realistically the last chance of glory for all 3, but they all reacted like it was their first.

Sarce being local and Paddy being here when he was younger definitely play a part - they both seem to properly get it. As a younger, upcoming player how can you not be inspired and motivated when you’ve got successful, seasoned professionals like that around you in the dressing room!?

I've just watched the club highlights, seeing Steve Bellis giving out the hugs at the end, bloody hell, of all the things to get me, that's what what set the tears off! You can see just what it means to the man! 💙

I think they're capable of smashing League One for a season or two yet.

Powell in particular is interesting for me, I was very critical of him pre-Christmas, but second half of the season it feels like something seems to have clicked for him - when we score a goal he seems to have as much delight as anyone celebrating it and it looks like he gets on really well with the rest of the squad.

I'd like to think if you asked Powell he'd say he's had his most enjoyable season in football for a good few years. Don't think he really enjoyed it at Stoke, plus they achieved nothing in the time he was there to celebrate.
He's still not scored a goal at EP though. I reckon Saturday is time.

No, not at all, i'm more than happy for Ben, Paddy & Sarce to be given rolling 1 year contracts & let them decide when its time to finish,
