Agree with that apart from the playing us off the park for periods at EP thing. We let them have the ball and they did very little with it. We were disciplined and sat in their shape and they very rarely threatened. That’s not playing us off the park for me, we defended expertly that day. Definitely. The number of people sat around me in the Cheadle End that night shouting to just snap into (mainly) Bostock was amazing. To be fair a lad near me was telling his mates exactly what I thought - that’s exactly what they want you to do! We let them have it in front of us and until stoppage time they did naff all with it. The demands to just leather into a player or SNAP HIM, or GET RID, are one of my most hated things to listen to at games. All that does is concede a free kick in a dangerous area and/or lose possession and invite more pressure. It’s moronic. When we’ve got players as good as Horsfall, Pye, Sarcevic etc the last thing we should be doing is just lumping it up field. Same with PRESSURE when two centre halves are idling with the ball 30 yards from their goal. That’s exactly what they want. Us to fall out of shape and then they can play through us. Let them piss about it with it and then go after possession at the right moment. That’s exactly what we did the other night. To be fair to Notts back in December, I thought they looked very good. It was quick, full of intent and looking for opportunities to play that final ball. Less disciplined teams than us would easily have fallen into their trap. No surprise they were so successful early in the season.

Just watched the highlights, & its noticeable how much this title meant to Powell, Madden & Sarcevic, considering everything else they've achieved in the game. I know its realistically the last chance of glory for all 3, but they all reacted like it was their first. It’s still a big moment for Powell. His only league title other than this is League One with Wigan. He’s not got a load of trophies at home. He played once or twice for United in Fergie’s final season but wouldn’t have qualified for a medal and was at Wigan for majority of the season.

Reading some of the postmatch comments on interviews etc. and there's a lot of Notts will be right up there next season if they can sort out their defence or cut out the errors. That's true - as was shown by early this season, though they still rode their luck. They also definitely need a better calibre of defender. But, I think people forget that the defence and attack aren't two separate units independent from each other. So much of our defending comes from the front and the workrate and press of the likes of Madden, Wootton, Tanto and Sarcevic. Similarly, whilst Crowley, Jones and Langstaff are class, part of the reason why Notts have scored so many is their shape is all about the attack. I can't say I have watched them loads but Tuesday night it was basically 3-3-4 if not 3-2-5 with the wingbacks (who really are wingers) so high. Jones gets more time and space that way but equally he leaves a big gap behind. Their style is also pass at all costs. Their CBs have been recruited for that. When it works it looks great and they were better than us at building attacks from deep vs a set defence. We struggled with that in the first 20 without Tanto's threat in behind. But again that comes at a cost and error then came, plus their CBs simply aren't as good defenders. Where am I going? Even if Notts recruit much better defenders, I can't see them suddenly halving the goals they concede and scoring the same, which is basically what they need. They need to play 4-3-3 imo or at least only play Nemane and Jones as wingbacks vs the lesser sides that will sit in all day. Regardless, I think they'll have an issue that, at this level, you won't find a defender that can do it all. There needs to be a bit of pragmatism and playing the percentages. Mixing it up and going long to pose a different threat, can also enhance your attack! They're great entertainment - both for goals and style (I think they played us off the park for periods at EP). So I'll watch on with interest, especially to see if anyone comes in for their stars in the summer. Agree with that apart from the playing us off the park for periods at EP thing. We let them have the ball and they did very little with it. We were disciplined and sat in their shape and they very rarely threatened. That’s not playing us off the park for me, we defended expertly that day. Largely I agree with you. It was probably a poor choice of words. I was referring more to their ability on the ball and control of the game than end product - which is what football is all about. We were good defensively that night, but last night we were better imo (besides that spell when we hadn't reacted to their subs and should have brought on our subs 5 mins earlier). We created so much more than the home game and played some great stuff ourselves, whilst not going overboard at the back... We didn't manage that at home imo. 1 goal from a corner, then a pen on a breakaway. We had 4 shots that night (so did they to be fair!). Tuesday we had 22 (to their 13).

If that was an ordinary league game with less pressure we could have scored 10. Everything is wrong wih the way that NC defend and I expect a few students will be considering a dissertation on something like …“Notts County..future way or road to Bradford PA Right. "Fannying about in your own penalty area until you make a mistake" is not a sustainable defensive strategy. They seemed to do that a lot. Neither does the cavalier "we're going to score one more than you" approach meet with sufficiently regular success. Still, as JK said on commentary: "You certainly get your money's worth if you're a Notts County fan".

I personally wouldn't feel I was getting my moneys worth if it was my team making ridiculous defensive errors. When your team is like that it dilutes the work at the other end too because deep down you know the goal you've scored may not be all important. Also its taken them to 14th in the league which is probably pound for pound the most boring position you could be in the table.

I have got a surname that can be spelt 3 ways and i,m not happy as well when they get it wrong even though it helped me challenge a speeding fine succesfully once. Not as bad as my old man who binned any letter where his surname was spelled wrongly. I have a surname that can be spelt one way (well maybe 2 as taking the s off the end is technically a variation) and it gets misspelled all the sodding time. There’s a theatre I’ve worked at since 2019. We had to get lanyards made up with our names on due to the nature of one of the shows that’s on atm - 5 years I’ve been there and my name was wrong when I was given it. That’s why I’ve got a stage name. Lucky buggars, I’ve been stuck with reckless for 70 sodding years

Powell in particular is interesting for me, I was very critical of him pre-Christmas, but second half of the season it feels like something seems to have clicked for him - when we score a goal he seems to have as much delight as anyone celebrating it and it looks like he gets on really well with the rest of the squad. He is always the first to encourage the younger players as well

He is always the first to encourage the younger players as well He scored that goal at Wimbledon but hardly celebrated, I think he knew he wasn’t right fitness wise and he confirmed that later in the season. He’s actually ended up with a decent amount of minutes, seemed unlikely earlier in the season.

I have friends with the same surname and it is astounding the number of people that never get it right. Really annoys them too! I have got a surname that can be spelt 3 ways and i,m not happy as well when they get it wrong even though it helped me challenge a speeding fine succesfully once. Not as bad as my old man who binned any letter where his surname was spelled wrongly. Not as important when it's your Christian name that is always spelled wrong but when Malcolm is actually spelled correctly, it makes a change. Apart from one instance, both as a Christian name and as a Surname, I've never seen it spelled any other way than Malcolm. Malcom is very common but aside from an Argentinian striker at San Lorenzo in Buenos Aires, I've never seen it spelled without the second l. I've had Malcome but the worst ever was on a Christmas card from an ex work colleague that went straight in the bin, Malcombe 😲 I've had Malk on the shortened version more than once too. 😳😠

Its fine when it always comes off but it does not. Prefer seeing good old row Z being used when its needed but feel many defenders are loathed to do that nowadays because of the tag of being a big donkey placed on them. At times some of our performances have not been memorable but prefer being champions playing that way to mid table oblivion with the leagues worst defensive record on top of it. You just do not get a bonus point for having the most posession in games either. Well not yet anyway.

Did we really win the title on Tuesday night? I must be imagining it. Yes on the BBC there's a match report saying County are champions but perhaps its a mistake. In the last week 9!! articles about Wrexham being promoted, the matches that helped them to promotion and others speculating on how competitive they will be in L1. Just two interviews with DC.
Tuesday must have been a dream. Or too much beer...
